The United Nations Archives is proud to announce the launch of an online peacekeeping mapping exhibition which geo-locates all 71 missions on a map of the world and showcases the records of current and past peacekeeping operations held in the archive.
Of the many different fonds that are held by the UN Archives and Records Management Section, those from peacekeeping missions are among the most heavily consulted. Peacekeeping is at the heart of what the United Nations does around the world and the breadth and scope of these missions have generated millions of records, the most important of which are eventually transferred to the UN Archives for preservation and consultation.
As part of UN Archives’ efforts to highlight our holdings and to improve their discoverability, we have put together this exhibition. Each slide gives a brief history of the mission, the dates of its activities and provides links to the location of these records in the UN Archives’ public catalogue. Additional information for each mission is also available via a link to the UN Peacekeeping website.
Enjoy!
